Exploring the world of construction

In December 2011, Science Museum Oklahoma inaugurated Building Buddies, its newest travelling exhibit, which will tour the five partner museums comprising the Oklahoma Museum Network.

Building Buddies was designed and developed by Toboggan Design and fabricated by Exposition TCD.

Just like Mom and Dad!

Building Buddies is a series of seven hands-on stations where even the youngest visitors can try their hands at various construction trades.

Skilfully designed by the experts at Toboggan Design, the exhibition is composed of brightly coloured structures inviting participants to build, paint, tile, decorate, and finish partially completed structures in an interactive village.

Robust construction

The design of the travelling exhibition is modular to facilitate transportation and the ability to meet the space requirements of its various homes. Most of the components consist of openwork plywood structures covered with medium density fiberboard panels finished with plastic laminate and hardwood ridges to resemble the framework of a typical wood construction.

Once assembled, the components are self-supporting and structurally stable. They are built of wood, high-density polyethylene, laminated graphic surfaces, and brightly coloured laminate sheet.
